He was engaged in farming most of his early life. He had been employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Highways and was a former Greene Township Supervisor.
Surviving are his widow Carrie F. Hoover Bishop, whom he married on January 4, 1916; son Garnet L. of Chambersburg; daughters Madeline (Mrs. Orville) Jeffrey of Interlachen, Florida; Hazel (Mrs. Jay E.) McCleary of R.R. 2, Doris (Mrs. Merle ) Yeager of R.R. 9; 9 grandchildren,; 3 great-grandchildren; brother Russell of Chambersburg and sisters Mrs. Mary Henry of Shippensburg, Mrs. Verna Rosenberry of Chambersburg and Annie (Mrs. Byran) Rosenberry of Chambersbsurg.
