Carl H. Bower Dies Suddenly

ROTE — Carl H. Bower, 55, died Monday, August 27, 1962 at the Lock Haven Hospital. Mr. Bower had put in his normal week at Kyle's Dairy, was head bookkeeper.
Over the weekend, he became ill, but attributed the illness to indigestion. Monday, a doctor was summoned, and Mr. Bower was admitted in critical condition. Coroner R. LeRoy Bryerton gave the cause of death as a coronary thrombosis.
Carl Bower was born in Cedar Springs, Nov. 22, 1906, the son Frank B. and Rose Neff Bower. He attended schools in the Salona area, and later graduated from the Lock Haven Business Institute in 1924. He had lived in the area all his life, and in Rote for the past 45 years. He had been crippled by polio early in his life, but had remained active despite the necessity of crutches. Mr. Bower had been employed as a bookkeeper at the Bloomsburg and Susquehanna Silk Mills for a number of years, and for 16 rears, operated a service station. For the past five years, he had been bookkeeper at Kyle's. Mr. Bower had also been for 22 years tax collector for Lamar Township. He was chairman of the Clinton County Board of Assistance the past year and a half, and had been a member of the board seven years. He was a member of the Rote E.U.B. Church.
Mr. Bower was survived by his wife, the former Mary Elizabeth Deibler. Also surviving were his son, Thomas E., Cleveland; his daughter, Mrs. James R. Tale, Yardley; a brother, Clair L. Bower, Salona; and four sisters, Mrs. Paul Brungard, Lock Haven RD; Mrs. George Deibler, Peasant Gap; Mrs. Lloyd Kramer, Salona R. D., and Mrs. Fred Courter, Salona, children. and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the McCloskey Funeral Home, Mill Hall, with the Reverend Herbert E. Glasgow officiating.
Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
