John and Nowita Walker Martin were married in Idabel, OK, on February 14, 1982.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Barney Martin of Oregon, James Martin and Jerry Martin of Mena, AR.
John is survived by Nowita, his devoted wife of 37 years; one son, Chris Murray (Kristi) of Idabel, OK; three daughters, Amanda McBride (Eldon) of Idabel, OK; Amanda Eickhoff of Modesto, CA; Angie Jones of Modesto, CA; his sister, Bonnie Gatliff (George) of Little Rock, AR; six grandchildren, Matthew, Isabella, Phoenix, Ashley, Ben and Nathan; a special niece, Shirley Lawson of Ft Smith, AR; one half brother, Leo Martin (Hazel) of Pickens, OK and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
John retired as an Investigator for the Child Support Division of the Department of Human Services. He had previously held the positions of patrolman and later Chief of Police of Broken Bow, OK; Deputy Sheriff, Undersheriff and Acting Sheriff of McCurtain County.
John took pride and enjoyed his career in law enforcement. After his retirement he enjoyed fishing, woodworking in his garage shop, and spending time with his family and beloved pets.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at the White Family Chapel with Ministers Rodney Watson and Jerry Falling officiating.
Interment will follow at the Redland Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, October 21, 2019 at the White Family Chapel from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
