As of March 1921, Bert Casey had been employed for the past five years as a professor and instructor in English at the Argriculture School (later Arkansas Tech) in Russellville, AR.
On Easter Sunday, 27 March 1921, he and his younger brother Fred, a student at the same school, received a visit from their sister Nellie, who had come from Conway that morning. Later that same evening, a couple of miles west of town, Fred and Nellie were killed in a tragic automobile accident in his Dodge roadster.
He always blamed himself for letting Fred and Nellie borrow his car.
