Eugene A. Shotkoski, 86, of St. Edward, NE passed away Saturday, October 12. 2019 at the Norfolk Veteran's Home in Norfolk, NE.
Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2019 at St. Edward Catholic Cemetery in St. Edward, NE, with Rev. Bill L'Heureux officiating. Military Rites will be provided by American Legion Crosier Post #226 of St. Edward, NE.
Eugene Anton Shotkoski, son of Ben and Elizabeth (Krzycki) Shotkoski, was born on October 7, 1933 at St. Edward, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith, received his elementary education at rural Boone and Nance County Schools, and secondary education at St. Edward High School. Gene worked various jobs before entering the United States Army, where he served from April 5, 1955-April 4, 1957.
Following his discharge, Gene returned to St. Edward where he married Patricia Lantz. They made their home in St. Edward and were blessed with two daughters: Sandi and Sheryl. The couple later divorced, and Gene began working in Columbus before later taking a job trucking for Werner Trucking in St. Edward. He then began a 30+ year career with Lindsay Manufacturing, retiring in the 1990's.
Gene was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and American Legion Crosier Post #226 of St. Edward, NE. He enjoyed fishing, his dogs, being outdoors gardening or doing lawn work, and was a very big Chicago Cubs baseball fan.
Gene is survived by his two daughters: Sandi (Kevin) Perry of Surprise, AZ; Sheryl (Steve) Sommerfeld of St. Louis, MO; six grandchildren: Danielle Kaup, Sara Kaup, Kristin (Ryan) Shackelford, all of Surprise, AZ, Dillon Perry of Norfolk, NE; Jessica (Chris) Thacker of Belleville, IL; Jennifer Meredith of St. Louis, MO; 12 great-grandchildren; sister Phyllis Roberts of Newman Grove, NE; along with many nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Ray Fonda, brother and sister-in-law LeRoy and Kathy Shotkoski; brother-in-law Joe Roberts, sister and brother-in-law Rita and Bill Curren and stepbrother Nick Fonda.
