James was the 3rd of 12 children of Charles Maguire and Harriett Yearion.
He married on February 19, 1885, Boone County, Indiana, to Fannie J. Graham.
In the 1900 census James was farming in Sugar Creek Township, Montgomery County, Indiana. In 1910-1930 he was in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, working for the railroad.
