Royl Henry Layton Cravens, age 84, a McMinnville, TN resident and Overton County native was born October 27, 1934 and passed away October 1, 2019 at NHC Healthcare in Sparta, TN following an extended illness.
He was a retired employee of General Motors, member of the Baptist Church, and son of the late Clarence and Ada Garrett Cravens. Mr. Cravens was married May 11, 1963 to Freddie Mae Brown Cravens who preceded him in death.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, Hughey, Buck, Roden, R.V. and Oin Cravens and sister Nell Carr.
Mr. Cravens is survived by daughter and son-in-law Fredia and James Coldwell of McMinnville, TN; son Roy David Cravens of Cookeville, TN; grandchildren Hunter Black, Hayden Black, Paige Rutherford, Daniel Cravens, Terran Cravens, William Cravens, Bradley Brown, and Torie and Taylor; sister-in-law Sharon Cravens of Anderson, TN; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Frank and Nell Bell and the Heflin Family.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm Thursday, October 3, 2019 in High’s Chapel with Steve Madison to officiate. Interment will be held in Overton County Memorial Garden at 3:00 pm Thursday. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 pm till 8:00 pm and 10:00 am Thursday until the time of service at High’s.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kastaway Kitties, Po Box 914, McMinnville, TN 37111 or Viola Valley Dogs, Po Box 39, Viola, TN 37394.
