Ethel Birchfield, 95, of Mohawk, WV passed away Friday, September 27, 2019, in Mohawk. Ethel was a self-sufficient and strong-willed person; she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and enjoyed gardening, canning, and her flower garden.  Ethel was a devout Christian and a member of the Isaban Church of God. 

Ethel was born December 5, 1923, in Isaban, WV a daughter of the late Hobert Allen (Deceased) and Louise Sloan-Allen (Deceased). In addition to her parents Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Birchfield (1913-1985) whom she married on October 5, 1941 in Panther, McDowell County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, McDowell County, WV, 1941, Page 292, Application Date: September 22, 1941); two sons, Charles Leonard Birchfield (1948-2014) and Thomas "Tommy" Birchfield (Deceased); and three brothers, Emzy Allen (Deceased), Sidney Allen (Deceased), and Harry Allen (Deceased).  

Survivors include one son, Stephen Birchfield Sr. & wife Freda Birchfield of Mohawk, WV; one daughter, Carol Birchfield-Jones of Greenville, NC; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Young of Bluefield, WV, Stephen Birchfield Jr. of Mohawk, WV, Thomas Birchfield II of Kansas, Michelle Yates of NC and James Jones also of NC; numerous great grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Allen-Raper of MI; a special caregiver, Eva Birchfield of Mohawk, WV; and numerous nieces and nephews.       

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Thomas Fife officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV.  Burial will follow in the Allen Cemetery at Mohawk, WV.
