daughter of John Bigelow, Revolutionary War soldier and Elizabeth Shays who was the niece of Capt Daniel Shays of Shays Rebellion.
After her marriage 26 Feb 1780 in Wilmington, Vermont, they lived for a time in Wilmington and then Bennington, Vermont. They had eight children:
Roxy, Nancy, Lucy, Polly, Jonathan, Simeon and two infants that died shortly after birth (both unnamed)

Simeon and Elizabeth moved from Vermont to Lenox, Madison County, NY about 1812 where they resided for about 25 years. In 1836, they sold the farm to Nancy's husband, Reuben Clark. and moved to Algonquin, Illinois where they were among the first settlers.
