The family moved from Vermont to Lenox, Madison County, NY about 1812 where they resided for about 25 years. In 1836 he sold the farm to his son-in-law, Reuben Clark (Nancy). They then moved to Algonquin, IL, where they were among the first settlers. He purchased 300 acres of prairie and woodland on a ridge to the southeast of the Fox River bridge. His sons John and Simeon Jr. helped him purchase this land and they owned it after his decease. Simeon Sr. passed away January 22, 1846 and was buried on his property. The Chandler family: the descendants of William and Annis Chandler who settled in Roxbury, Mass., 1637, page 365
There is a memorial stone for Simeon Chandler for his service in the War of 1812 near the grave of his son Simeon Jr. in the cemetery in Algonquin. The birth and death dates are for Simeon Jr. but that seems unlikely as he would have been only 7 years old in 1812.
