A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Highway 277 South, with Rev. Dr. Thomas Pratt officiating.
Dr. Autery was born to Willie Oscar Autery, Sr. and Lillie Pearl (Pratt) Autery on June 2, 1931, in Seminole, Oklahoma. He graduated from Liberty High School in Liberty, Texas, Baylor University, and Baylor School of Medicine. He was a medical doctor, and moved to Abilene from Canon City, Colorado in June, 2001.
Dr. Autery was a passionate follower of Christ, and a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Canon City, CO. He was an expert marksman and an avid hunter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clay Autery.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Eva Richardson Autery of Abilene; a son, William David Autery and wife, Piper, of Richardson, Texas; daughters, Cynthia Pettigrew and husband, Walter, of Brighton, Michigan, and Catherine Parish and husband, Steve, of Canon City, Colorado; five grandchildren, Dustin Autery, Ryan Autery, Joshua Parish, David Pettigrew, and Megan Pettigrew Young and husband, Kevin; and a great-grandson, Austin Young. He is also survived by a brother, Maj. Gen. Reuben Autery, USAF (Ret.), and his wife, Charlotte, of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
