OBITUARY: The Messenger, Fort Dodge, Iowa, Tuesday, 17 April 1906

PIONEER SETTLER PASSES AWAY

Daniel Daniels who Settled in Webster Co. in 1854, Died This Morning,

He was Aged Eight-Five,

Has Resided in This County Over Half Century. Interment Will Occur at Webster City, While Services Will Be at Lehigh.

Lehigh, Iowa, April 17 [1906]. --(Special to The Messenger.)--Daniel Daniels, who for over a half century has made Webster County his home, passed away at the age of eighty-five this morning. Death came after over three months of sickness, which was brought on by advanced age. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Irwin Taylor, who resides near Burnside.

Mr. Daniels with his family came to Iowa in 1854 and settled on a farm near Lehigh. With the exception of two years, during which time he resided in Webster City, he has spent all the time since then in Webster County.

At the time of his death he was aged 85 years, 4 months and 2 days. He was taken ill near the first of the year and has been in poor health ever since. His death was due more to advanced age than to any disease.

He leaves five children living, his wife having died in 1897. Four of the children reside in Webster County, and one, the youngest daughter, resides in Buffalo Center, Iowa.

The funeral arrangements have not yet been completed, but is thought that it will be held Thursday from the Lehigh Methodist church. The present arrangements are to take the body to Webster City for burial beside his wife.

Mr. Daniels is well known over the entire county as one of the earliest of the Webster county settlers who still are living. He was universally well liked and the news of his death will bring sadness to the many friends of the family, and all extend their sympathy to the children in their loss.
