Royce Wilson Jolley


Royce Wilson Jolley, 78, retired railway clerk and businessman who owned and operated an orchard near South Fulton for 30 years, died at his home early today following an extended illness.


Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hornbeak Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. William G. Adams will officiate and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.


Pallbearers will be Stephen Jolley Green, W. L. Jolley Jr., Fred Jolley, Seisel Kenneth Jonakin, Kenneth Jonakin and Robert Jonakin.


Mr. Jolley was born in Weakley County May 20, 1898, son of the late John Wilson Jolley and Mrs. Sarah Agnes Pate Jolley. He was a railway mail clerk for 22 years before he became associated with Joe Mack Reed in the Jolley-Reed Feed and Seed Company of South Fulton. When the partnership was dissolve and the company became Reed Brothers, Mr. Jolley became known throughout Tennessee and the surrounding states for the quality fruit offered from his large orchards located South of South Fulton. He was engaged in the growing of peaches and apples for 30 years prior to his retirement due to ill health.


Mr. Jolley held the 50 year pin for his membership in the Robert's Masonic Lodge 172 in Fulton.


Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Vieva Roper Jolley, daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. J.F. Roper of Union City, to whom he was married in 1925; three nieces and five nephews.

Royce Wilson Jolley, 78 Route 3, South Fulton, died suddenly at 2:30 a.m. today at his home on the South Fulton-Martin Highway following a long illness.


Mr. Jolley, son of the late John Wilson and Sarah Agnes Pate Jolley of South Fulton, was born in Weakley County, Tn., May 20, 1898.


He was a railway mail clerk for 22 years, then went into business with Joe Mac Reed in the Jolley-Reed Feed and Seed Mill in South Fulton. After selling his share of the partnership, which is now known at Reed Brothers, he went the orchard business and remained there for 30 years. He also had farming interests and was considered a master farmer.


He was a member of Roberts Lodge No. 172 F & AM, receiving his 50-year pin, several years ago.


On September 25, 1922, he was married to Viva Roper, daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. J.R. Roper of Union City.


Besides his wife, he leaves three nieces, Mrs. Sarah Jane Green, South Fulton, Mrs. Virginia Lee Stahr, Mayfield and Mrs. Robert Worsham of Oak Ridge, Tn.; five nephews, W. L. Jolley, Jr., Fred Jolley, both of Fulton, Seisel Jonakin, Jr., Kenneth and Robert Jonakin of Chattanooga.

A brother, W. L. Jolley and a sister Mrs. Pearl Jonakin preceded him in death.


Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel with interment in Fairview Cemetery. Rev. William G. Adams will be the officiating minister.


Active pallbearers will be: Stephen Jolley Green, Fred Jolley, W. L. Jolley, Jr., Seisel Jonakin, Kenneth Jonakin and Robert Jonakin.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Hornbeak Funeral Home.
