He served in the Army Air Force during WWII, then moved to Spokane, WA where he had met his wife at a USO dance. He attended Gonzaga University and worked 50 years in the wholesale hardware business, eventually becoming president and CEO of Erb Hardware.

He and his wife, Janice, had four children and ten grandchildren.

WWII Army Veteran. His enlistment record shows that he joined the Air Corps Division of the Army. The following information comes from his daughter, Diane:
"He began his war time in Africa, fighting Rommel from Egypt to Morocco. Then he was sent to the European continent--- Normandy, France, Belgium, Germany. His last effort was liberating Germany with General Patton. They met the Russians mid-Germany. That began the East/West Germany divide."
