Gallalee, Elizabeth Ferguson, died at home on June 23, 2019, at the age of 89. Mrs. Gallalee was born in Farmville, Virginia, on July 29, 1929, the daughter of Hunter Thomas Ferguson and his wife, the former Mary Lee Haskins, of Buckingham County, Virginia. After graduation from Longwood College, she married her husband of 54 years, the late William Drewry Gallalee, formerly of Petersburg, Virginia, who predeceased her in 2004. A resident of Richmond since 1957, Mrs. Gallalee was a school teacher and an avid tennis and bridge player, as well as a dedicated book club member. She was a volunteer for the Richmond Tennis Association, where for over 10 years, she was the director in charge of ticket sales for the professional tennis tournament at the Richmond Coliseum. Later in life, she volunteered in reading programs in Richmond Public Schools through St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, where she and her late husband were longtime parishioners.
Mrs. Gallalee is survived by a daughter, Mary Hunter Drewry Gallalee Ayer; a son, William Hunter Drewy Gallalee; a daughter-in-law, Leigh Welsh Gallalee, all of Richmond; and a son, James David Drewry Gallalee of Washington, D.C.
The family will hold a private graveside service at Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg, Virginia.
