Don Lewis Voorhees passed away, peacefully, at his Pleasant Grove, Utah home on Saturday, 7 September 2019, surrounded by his family.

Don was born in Mayfield, Utah on Thursday, 3 December 1936, to Austin Marinus and Anna Devoda [Anderson] Voorhees. He attended elementary school there, then graduated from Manti High School, where he was active in baseball, basketball and band. Don also spent many enjoyable hours playing the saxophone in a dance band.

After graduation he served honorably in the Army, then married his childhood friend and the "love of his life", the former Sheryl Lee Whitlock.

Don worked in California as a carpenter and in Nevada, for Boyles' Brothers' Drilling Company. Don and Sheryl then settled in Pleasant Grove, Utah, where they raised their four children. Twenty-eight years later, Don retired from AT&T and concluded his career with the Alpine School District.

While herding sheep as a young boy with his father, he fostered a great love for the mountains of Sanpete County. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, black powder, bow and rifle hunting, four-wheeling and camping with his family. Don also enjoyed horse racing, tying flies, leatherworking, and fast cars--especially his '57 Chevy.

Don enjoyed telling stories and could spin a great yarn.

He and Sheryl also loved spending time at their Duchesne property and visiting with friends.

Don was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Don had served many years in the Scouting program and, following his retirement, then served a service mission with Sheryl, at the Lindon Cannery and Stake ESL program.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, six siblings and two grandsons.

Left to cherish his memory are Don's wife, Sheryl; their children, Kendal (Jane) Voorhees, Donell (Ellen Kay) Voorhees, Lori (Gary) Bartlett, and Judy Thomas; fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call on Don's family from 6 to 8 P.M., on Tuesday, 10 September 2019 and from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M., on Wednesday, 11 September, at the Pleasant Grove Second Ward building, 455 East 200 South, where his Funeral services will convene at 11 A.M., followed by a Graveside service in Mayfield City Cemetery, Mayfield, Utah, at 4 P.M., where Military Funeral Honors will be presented by the American Legion Post #105.
