Professional Football Player. For five seasons (1959 to 1963), he played at the defensive back and flanker positions in the National Football League with the Chicago/St. Louis Cardinals. Born Billy McGovern Stacy, he attended Winona High School in Mississippi and later played collegiate football at Mississippi State University. While with the Bulldogs, he played at the quarterback position and set numerous school records, as he achieved second team All American honors. Selected by the Chicago Cardinals as the number 3 overall pick during the 1959 NFL Draft, he totaled 58 career regular season games. Highly versatile, Stacy tied a NFL record for scoring a touchdown on a reception, interception and fumble return during the same season (1961). He achieved Pro-Bowl honors that year (1961). After retiring from football, he entered the political arena and went on to serve as Mayor of Starkville, Mississippi.
