Cyrus Vaughan crossed the plains on the Oregon Trail with his parents in 1852 and settled in Yamhill/Washington County, Oregon.
--
As a young man he taught school on Chehalem Mountain and married one of his students, Martha Wood, when he was 34 and she was almost 18. Walked with a limp, had one leg shorter than the other. A small man. Died of an attack of the grip (paralysis)
--
Managed the grain warehouse at the foot of Wynuski St. at Roger's Landing in Newberg for a number of years. Farmed on the Willamette River but after one of the big floods he moved to West Linn for a time, where his sons worked in the woods. In 1902 most of the family moved to Hood River and settled on Adams Addition where they raised strawberries. They built their homes on 13th Street, where they still stand.
