Salinas resident Irene Stockton Lindley of Salinas died Thursday at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula following a brief illness. She was 89. Mrs. Lindley was a native of Marshall County, Okla., and lived in Salinas for 58 years. Mrs. Lindley is survived by her daughters, Colene Smoot of Salinas and Delois Overton of Hanford; her sisters, Nora Walker and Margie Hewett, both of Oklahoma; her brothers, Wayne Akin and Gerald Akin, both of Oklahoma; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Struve and Laporte Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 :30 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories cemetery. Memorials may be made to Visiting Nurse Association; Hospice of the Central Coast, 100 Barnet Segal Lane, Monterey, 93940; or the donors favorite charity.
