John Burnett
The death angel visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Burnett on January 2 and claimed their darling son, John. John was a good boy and had many friends. He was just in the bloom of life. He was 18 years, nine months and two days old when he was called away. John was a church member; belonged to the Baptist church at Owensville. He joined the church in 1908. He remained a member for about two or three years. Then for a time he gave up interest in the church but last September with other boys, came back and has been a true Christian every since and we believe he had a home in heaven. John is survived by a father and one sister, Viola, a stepmother, four stepsisters and one stepbrother. John's mother died when he was quite a small boy.
John leaves lots of friends and relatives to weep and mourn his loss but we know that our loss is heaven's gain. So let's all live so when our time comes we may be prepared to meet our God in peace.
John's funeral was preached by Rev. O. C. Robinson. John was laid to rest in the Owensville Cemetery to await the judgment day. Quite a crowd was out to bid him a last farewell. His loving cousin, Mollie. [from the Benton Courier, January 8, 1914, page 5]
