From Roy W. Barber Funeral Home, Laytonsville, MD:
Audrey Porter Balderson, age 100, died in Sandy Spring, Md., February 8th. An active and beloved member of her church community, St. John's Episcopal in Olney, where she volunteered for over 25 years, Audrey lived a life of service, including many years volunteering at the National Cathedral. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Audrey graduated from Western High School and attended Strayer Business College. At an early age she experienced the struggles of the Depression; and then, as a new bride, the long ordeal of World War II, during which her husband, Wilmer (“Baldy”) Balderson served in India with the Army Air Corps. After the war, she was a mother and homemaker in Bethesda, Md. , active in her community, and at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Chevy Chase. In her later years, while she was living near St. Petersburg, Florida, she often traveled abroad with Calvary Episcopal Church, including an extensive trip to the Holy Land. Audrey is survived by her four children: Andrew H. Balderson (Linda) of Laytonsville; Jean B. Cheney (Charles) of Salt Lake City, Utah; Robert C. Balderson (Karen) of Isle of Palms, South Carolina; and Donald P. Balderson (Mary) of Summerville, South Carolina; nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
