Lucy Jane Adshade, 91, after a short illness died on Thursday afternoon, May 27th. She was born in Maccan, Nova Scotia, the daughter of Michael and Sarah Fortune on Feb. 16, 1857. She and her husband and children came to the United States in the early fall of 1900. They first lived in Randolph, VT, but moved to Lebanon 27 years ago and have been residents of this community since that time. Mr. Adshade passed on 11 years ago.
Mrs. Adshade is survived by six children: Joseph and Menard of Boston, MA; Mrs. Rose Gracie and Mrs. Frank King of Lebanon; Mrs. Laura Hurlburt of Boston, MA; and Mrs Ethel Harris of Nashua. Other survivors include 22 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church with Rev. W.J.B. Cannell and Rev. Frank K. Neary officiating. Burial was in the family lot at the Valley Cemetery. The bearers were all great grandchildren of the deceased; Robert Gracie, Francis Hurlburt, Donald Lower, Charles Lower, Lloyd Santaw and Melvin Santaw.
Among those attending from out of town were Mrs. Delia Charbeneau, Miss Marie Charbeneau, Mr. & Mrs. Valentine King, and Mr. & Mrs. Arthur King all of Ware, MA; Mrs. Minnie Santaw, Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Santaw and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Santaw, all of Claremont; Mrs. Helen Hurlburt, Mr. Francis Hurlburt and Mrs. Elaine Willett of Windsor, VT; Mr. Russell Gracie of West Canaan; Mr. Robert Gracie of Enfield; Mrs. George Carruthers of Hamilton, Ont.; Ensign and Mrs. Franklin King of New London, CT; and Mr. William Preston of White River Jct., VT.
