William Preston who has of late been working at tree surgery in the northern part of the state, lost his life Wednesday of last week by drowning in a pond near Colebrook. He started to cross to the opposite shore in a canoe which capsized when he was well started on his way. His plight was discovered and people went to his assistance but he sank before he could be reached. It was about 40 minutes before his body was brought to the surface but attempts at resuscitation were futile. Mr. Preston is survived by an invalid wife and a young son, William. The funeral was held on Saturday at Lebanon where he formerly lived. Mrs. Preston and her son have left for Massachusetts where they are to be with relatives.
