Mrs. Alice Elizabeth Lewis, lifetime resident of Worden, died at 2:30 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon, at the St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield. Mrs. Lewis has been suffering with a lingering illness for the past several months. She was born July 11, 1866, in Worden, the daughter of the late Abel and Sarah Drake. At the time of her death, she had reached the age of 77 years and 16 days. On April 15, 1884, she was married in Worden to Edmund Lewis, who preceded her in death 17 years ago. Mrs. Lewis has been a very active member of the Worden Methodist church for 70 years.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Arnette Kell, of St. Louis; two sons, Alba Lewis, of Gillespie, and W.T. Lewis, of Edwardsville; seven grandsons, and one sister, Mrs. Hannah Stroud, of Worden. One daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Lohmeier, preceded her in death in 1926, and four sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Worden Methodist church, with Rev. J.T. Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Worden City Cemetery. The body will be taken to the residence of W.T. Lewis, 440 E. Vandalia street, and may be seen after 6 o'clock this evening. The body will lie in state in the church, Thursday afternoon from 1 o'clock, until the time of the service.
