Abel Corona, 75, of Pendleton passed away peacefully on August 12, 2018.

Abel was born January 22, 1943 in Puerta de Cerano Guanajuato, Mexico, to Gregorio Corona Rico and Elena Lemus Castro. He lived in Mexico for 35 years before coming to the United States. On December 23, 1964 he married Maria del Carmen Azvala Tenorio. He was 21 and she was 18 when they married.

When he came to the United States in 1978, he worked in the fields and in harvest. He worked in many states, including Florida, California and Illinois finally settling in Oregon. He also worked for Rocky Mountain Pipe, Denny’s, Dave’s Chevron, McDonalds, Blue Mountain Lumber, Weston and Harris Pine. Abel was a hard worker and good provider. In his spare time he liked to garden, take evening walks and spend time with his family. Abel was always friendly and this was evident by all of his many friends.

Abel is survived by his wife, Maria Del Carmen Zavala Tenorio; sons, Juan Alberto Corona, Jose Corona and Lorenzo Corona; daughters, Leonor Corona, Maria Dolores Corona, Arcelia Corona, Maria Carmelita Corona and 18 grandchildren.

A funeral mass was held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
