Leonard "Skip" Kearns was my paternal grandfather of Irish descent, born in Manchester, Connecticut. He married my grandmother Leona Kearns and became the father of some children, one of which, Christopher Kearns (b. Dec. 25, 1953), was my father, and another, Lenny, was my uncle and father of my cousin Kim (b. Feb. 15, 1982). Another one, my uncle Mike, took his own life when I was a few months old. One day Leonard and Leona separated, and he had to live with his other son, my uncle Andy. My family and I would make visits with Leonard (who had a likeness for sports), even celebrating birthdays with him; and though he was ill in his last years, he still showed great love for my family and in the Holy Trinity (Leonard and my family are Catholics too). The last time I saw Leonard alive was on Easter, April 4, 1999, when my family and I wished him a Happy Easter (I was 16 years old then). Grandpa Leonard passed away two days later (April 6), at the age of 66, and I never knew that he would share in Jesus' resurrection until then. He will always be in our hearts and in the hearts of my family. Rest in peace, Leonard. You will be missed.
