Eleanor Kash Evans, 87, died Saturday, May 26, 2007. She was the wife of the late Hunter Pharr Evans.
Born in Fredricksburg, Aug. 2, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Eleanor Coleman and Robert Walker Kash. Eleanor was an active member of New Concord Presbyterian Church and a former member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was active in the Presbyterian Women in the Blue Ridge Presbytery, Appomattox Presbytery, Synod of Virginia and a trustee for the Sunnyside Presbyterian Home. Mrs. Evans served on the Campbell County Board of Supervisors (1980-1987), and served as Chairman in 1987. Eleanor is the only woman to have served as Chairman. She was a leader in the Concord PTA, Eastside 4-H Club, Sherwill 4-H Club, Campbell County Horse and Pony Club. In 1982, she was inducted into the Virginia 4-H All Star Hall of Fame. Mrs. Evans served as a director for the Piedmont Heart Association, Campbell County Farm Bureau, and the Virginia Jersey Cattle Club. She was a member of the American Angus Association, the Virginia Angus Association, and the James River Chapter, D.A.R.
Eleanor graduated from Madison College with a B.S. in Home Economics and Physical Education. She was a retired teacher having taught at Concord High School and Rustburg High School.
She is survived by three children, Douglas H. Evans Sr. and his wife, Susan, of Lynchburg, Layton E. Manus and her husband, Thomas, of Mint Spring, and Thomas W. Evans of Concord; three grandchildren, Hunter Evans and his wife, Sara, of Forest, Jaimee S. Evans of Charlotte, N.C., and Shelly L. Evans of Concord; a great-grandson Morgan Pharr Evans; two sisters Virginia K. Snyder of Mount Jackson, and Margaret K. Wlodarski of Huntsville, Ala.; a sister-in-law, Janie M. Kash of Fredricksburg.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert W. Kash and a sister, Frances K. Plunkett.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held noon, Monday, May 28, 2007, at New Concord Presbyterian Church. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Emily S. Larsen and Eleanor's nephew the Rev. Dr. Benjamin S. Booth.
