After her husband's recent death, Colonel Hubbard Thomas Plunkett Jr. on February 17, she could no longer find happiness without her "Tommy" of 54 years. The love they shared was truly wonderful, powerful, and deeply spiritual. Throughout their union, she was his anchor and support, with a quick smile and a way of making anyone feel welcome and comfortable in any situation. She adapted readily to "whatever happened" and would modify her life to any change that appeared. Many times the Colonel would bring home someone "new to the area" and she would welcome them and make them feel at home until they could be settled. Her girlish charm and wit was always present. All who knew her could count on her to give of herself for their comfort and to be a true friend. She was a true example of the warm, witty, charming and elegant Southern Lady.
She is survived by her twin daughters Lynn Nilsson of Roanoke and Gay Jensen of Fort Worth, Texas and their husbands; three granddaughters Heather Nilsson, Molly Nilsson, and Kathryn Jensen; one grandson Robert Jensen; three sisters, Eleanor Evans of Concord, Virginia Snyder of Mt Jackson, and Margaret Wlodarski of Huntsville, Ala.
The family will receive family and friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Simpson-Tharp Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road Roanoke, Va. A memorial service for Fran and Tom will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Buena Vista Presbyterian Church in Buena Vista by the Rev. Rebekah J. Maul. Flowers will be appreciated and may be sent to Simpson-Tharp.
