John C. Powell, son of Cyrus and Amelia Powell was born August 1, 1884, near Indianapolis, Iowa, and died at his home east of Nelson on March 2, 1941, at the age of 56 years, 7 months and 1 day.

When about eight years of age he moved with his parents to Clayton, Kansas, where he lived until 1902 when he moved to Almena, Kansas. Here he started farming for himself.

In 1908 he came to Nora, Nebr., where he met Violet Adrian and they were married December 28, 1909. They returned to Kansas to farm, but in 1910 came back to Nebraska where he has continued to reside. To this union were born four children: Miss Opal of Ogallala, Nebr.; Mrs. Daisy Farver of Nelson, Nebr.; and Arlene and Ardis Powell at home.

He leaves beside his wife and four children, one grandson, one brother, five sisters and a host of nieces and neighbors.

When a young man he united with the M.E. Church at Almena, Kans. His outstanding trait of character was honesty, and his firm stand in his belief of the right as he saw it. He made friends wherever he went. He loved his home best, and found contentment there.

Life, we've been long together,
Thru sunshine and thru cloudy weather.
'Tis hard to part when friends are dear,
Perhaps 'twill cause a sigh, a tear,
So steal away, give little warning.
Say not "good night," but in some fairer clime
Bid me "good morning"
