Visitation will be Thursday, July 18, 2019, from 6-8 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral service will be Friday, July 19, 2019, at 1 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gene Dawkins and Bro. Steve Lammons officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens Fayette, AL with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing.
Mr. Beard was born August 14, 1946, in Fayette, AL to the Sara Frances Abernathy and JD Beard. He attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Mr. Beard played football during junior high and high school and continued to stay a football fan. Mr. Beard enjoyed watching wildlife and nature. He worked at Omnova Solutions as a Machine Operator for 35 years. Mr. Beard was a red coat volunteer at Baptist Memorial Hospital-GT and a Mason member of Kennedy Masonic Lodge. He was a Ham Radio Operator- call sign K5FUR. In addition to his parents, Mr. Beard is preceded in death by his brother- Kenneth Beard and sister- Sara Hattaway.
Mr. Beard is survived by his wife of 51 years- Peggy Strickland Beard, Columbus, MS; daughter- Jenia (Gerald) Vest, Steens, MS; son- Harold Beard, Columbus, MS; grandchild- Carley (John Eric) Kemp; great-grandchild- Tripp Kemp; sisters- Diane Beard, Tuscaloosa, AL, Donna (William) Callahan, Vernon, AL, Pam (Steve) Brand, Lavonia, GA, Fran (Bill) Heptinstall, Opelika, AL, and Debbie Beard, Macon, GA; brother- Mike (Tammy) Beard, Macon, GA
