Mrs Muir A Pioneer. To Kansas in a Covered Wagon in 1869. Funeral Saturday.
Mrs Mary Ann Muir, 89, who moved to Salina 15 years ago from her farm at Mentor, died this morning at 7:25 at Asbury hospital. Her home here was at 1402 South Ninth Street. Seven grandsons in military service out of 33 grandchildren she had is one proud record. Mrs Muir's whole life was devoted to her home left for the family. Pallbearers will be grandsons. There are eleven great grand-children and two great-great grandchildren.
Mrs Muir, born March 23rd, 1856 in Carbondale, Illinois came to Kansas with her parents in 1869 the family traveling overland from Peoria, Illinois. She had lived in this community ever since. Her husband, William Muir died in 1899. Sons and daughters are Mrs Nettie Muir, John Muir, William Muir, Mrs Mary Greene and Joe Muir the later from Mentor, the others from Salina. A sister Mrs John Bell, New Cambria and a brother John Crowther Salina.
Mrs Muir had been in the hospital only two days. She was a member of the Methodist church at Mentor. Her funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the Rush Smith Funeral home. The body remaining there until that time. Rev. Leonard Smoot assisted by Rev Joseph See conducting the service. Interment will be in Gypsum Hill cemetery (correction Crowther family landed Salina Nov 15, 1870.)
