Ballard died December 27, 1985 about 11:45 a.m. in Lubbock General Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Dickens County on May 3, 1924, he married the former Jerrie Condron on July 11, 1945 in Spur. He was a farmer and had lived in Dickens County all of his life. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jerrie Ballard, Spur; two daughters, Sandra Paschall, Spur and Donna Drennan, Dickens; (one son, Hollis Wayne Ballard, preceded him in death in 1976; four brothers, Billy Ray Ballard, Girard; George, Preston and Fletcher Ballard, all of Rochester; six grandchildren.
Pallbearers included Billy Dan Bingham; Lloyd Hindman, Rueben Waddell, Thurman Moore, Graden Bass, George Neaves and Sam Courtney.
Burial was in Spur Memorial Cemetery with Campbell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
