Robert C. "Uncle Bob" Beard, 64, of Duncansville died at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. He was born in Hollidaysburg, son of Charles and Ada "Mary" Weyant Beard. He married Theresa Leberfinger-Diehl. He retired December 1, 2006, from Norfolk Southern Corp. as a pipe fitter. He served the U.S. Navy in the Bay of Pigs invasion and two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was an avid John Wayne and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was a life member of the Duncansville VFW Post 8724. He is survived by his wife; his mother; a stepdaughter, Tina Diehl; a stepson, Bud Diehl; two stepgrandsons; three sisters: Linda, Shirley and Karen. He was preceded in death by his father Febuary 11, 1989; and a sister, Jane Cruse in December 2000.
