SPOKANE

Memorial Mass for Curtis Alexander Beyersdorf, 81, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Beyersdorf, who was born in Newport, Wash., died Sunday. He was a resident of Spokane for 81 years.

He moved to Spokane with his family at the age of 6 months. He attended Bancroft, Wilson, Roosevelt and Lewis and Clark schools in Spokane. He also attended Eastern Washington University.

Mr. Beyersdorf worked at Sam Lowe's Grocery at 20th Avenue and Lincoln during high school as an assistant to the butcher. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served in the South Pacific as an aerial engineer on the crew of a B-24 bomber. He flew 52 missions with the 319th Squadron of the 90th Bomb Group in the 5th Air Force.

During his service in World War II he received the Air Medal four times, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal and the American Service Medal. He was discharged in 1945 as a technical sergeant.

Mr. Beyersdorf became an insurance agent after the war, first working for Anthony Baker and Burns of Spokane.

He married Marguerite Mulloy in 1946.

Mr. Beyersdorf became superintendent of agencies for Aetna Insurance Co. in 1949, serving Utah, Southern Idaho and Eastern Oregon. In 1950 he shifted to serving Eastern Washington, North Idaho and Western Montana.

He began working as the manager of the insurance department at Washington Trust Bank in 1964. Later he was the risk manager before retiring in 1984 as assistant vice president.

Mr. Beyersdorf was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Spokane Club, Knights of Columbus and the Honorable Order of the Blue Goose. He also was past president of Inland Empire Fire Underwriters Association and the Sacheen Betterment Association.

He served on the board for Spokane Community College and was the chairman of its middle management advisory committee.

Survivors include his wife Marguerite; a daughter, Mary Wright of Olympia; and three grandsons.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus.
