The body is resting at the residence where friends may call after 7 o'clock Thursday evening. The funeral will be held at the home at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon and burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery.
Mr Spensley was born in Mineral Point, Wis., March 7, 1875, a son of John and Mary Jane Waller Spensley, and a grandson of John Robert Waller, a pioneer Dubuque County resident. He was educated in Dubuque High School and received his bachelor of law degrees from the State University of Iowa in 1896.
After graduation from law school, he became a senior partner of the real estate firm of Spensley, Bailey and Spensley, also handling farm mortgages and investments. From 1910 to 1939, Mr Spensley had his own business at the H.B. Spensley real estate and insurance, and he was also president of the Spensley theater, which he operated until 1933. In 1939, he took his son-in-law William L Gallogly into the firm, now known as Spensley and Gallogly, which had been largely headed by Mr Gallogly, since the partial retirement on Mr Spensley, several years ago.
He was associated with the Dubuque County and State Bar Associations; the Masons; the York Rite and El Kahir Shrine, Cedar Rapids. Mr Spensley was a member of the Methodist Church.
