Wendell Borland was born September 12, 1910 in Peterson, Iowa the son of David Sydney and Della (Pierce) Borland. His family farmed near Peterson, later moving to a farm near Hancock, MN. In Hancock, Wendell met Helen Oglesby from Benson, Minnesota. He was united in marriage to her on June 12, 1934. The couple first made their home near Peterson where they farmed. On March 1, 1935 they moved to a farm northeast of Lake Park. His wife, three sons and his farm were his passions and love of his life. He actively farmed his land until ninety years of age.
Wendell was a seventy-five year member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon and a ruling elder. He was also a member of the Lions Club and was a long time member of the I.O.O.F Lodge, where he attained the level of District Deputy Grand Master. Wendell established a seed business for thirty five years in the Lake Park area. He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes.
Wendell was proud of Lake Park and its farming traditions. He was the first Grand Marshall of Lake Park's annual Farmers Appreciation Day Parade in 2005.
Survivors include his sons, Lloyd David Borland and his wife Kay of Walnut, California; Barry Lee Borland and his wife Melody of Celeste, Texas; and Wendell Blaine Borland and his wife Lori of Moville, Iowa; grandchildren, Jeff, Mark, Lisa, Scott, Thom and Kirby Borland, Kerri Edberg, Kelly Heard and Haylie Borland; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Beverly Kass of Sioux City, Iowa; other family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-three years, Helen, brother, Howard Borland and a sister, Helena Terrell.
