Charlotte Barnwell Shoup was the daughter of Esther Habersham Elliott and Confederate Brigadier General Francis Asbury "Frank" Shoup.
Charlotte married William Lytle Nichol, Jr. on August 5, 1891 at All Saints Episcopal Church in Sewanee, Tennessee. To this union three children were born, Francis Shoup Nichol (1894), Esther Habersham Nichol (1896), and William Lytle Nichol III (1898).
