James W. Collins married Nancy Ramey on March 3, 1820 in Shenandoah Co., VA.

Military: He enlisted July 1, 1813 during the War of 1812 as a Private as a substitute for Daniel Blosser. He served in 6th Regiment Virginia Militia under Captain John Gilkerson . He was honorably discharged after serving 6 months at Fort Tarr in Norfolk, VA by January 10, 1814. He served with his brother in law, Joshua Tipton in Richmond and Norfolk, VA according to an original letter dated dated January 31, 1851.
