Alan graduated from Griffin High School in 1971 and attended Lincoln Land Community College. He proudly served in the Air National Guard from 1972 to 1978. Alan was a member of the American Legion Post #32, Illinois Police Benevolent and Protective Association, Pheasants Forever, and the NRA. He was employed as an officer with the Springfield Police Department and later as a Detective with the IL Supreme Court (Deputy Marshall). Alan loved fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears and Tiger Woods, but his favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gregory Brown; and sisters-in-law, Cathy Brown and Valerie Brown.
He is survived by his children, Aaron (Salina Walton) Brown of Springfield and Holly (Zack) Meyer, of Riverton; grandchildren, Landon, Tyler, Addison, Mackenzie, and Harper Meyer; girlfriend, Jessie Bain of Springfield; siblings, Duane Brown (Sue Davsko) of Springfield, Gail Brown of California, Rick Brown of Springfield, Bruce (Teresa) Brown of Texas and Kelly (Troy) Lake of Vermont; sister-in-law, Patricia Brown of Decatur; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2019 at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 South Grand Ave. West, Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield, with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery following the Mass.
