Walter P. Bernoski Sr., 89, of Morgantown, WV. passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25, 2009 at Mapleshire Nursing and Rehab Center in Morgantown. Walter was born June 2, 1920 in Bonola, PA, the son of the late Charles and Alexandra (Kapuscinsky) Bernoski. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the Marines with the 9th Marine Airwing. He retired after many years with Consolidated Coal Company. He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Walter will be remembered for his love of family, hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking and his devotion to God and prayer. He will be sadly missed by his primary caregivers, his son and daughter-in-law, Walter Jr. and Martha Ruth Bernoski of Westover. He will also be missed by his daughters, Irene Reed of Mt. Juliet, TN, Theresa (Dan) Graef of Warren, OH, and Carmen Adams (Robert) DeHoedt of Las Vegas, NV. He also leaves behind one brother, John (Marilyn) Bernosky of Mt. Morris, PA., eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Carmala Nellie (Lemine) Bernoski of 45 years on July 30, 1989, whom he married on March 5, 1944; one son-in-law, Kelley Reed III; two sisters, Ida Evanoff and Helen Bedgood; and one brother, Charles Bernosky. A private funeral mass for immediate family will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 30, at the St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Star City at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Father John V. DiBacco as celebrant. Interment will follow the funeral mass at the East Oak Grove Cemetery in Morgantown where Military Honors will be accorded by Westover Post # 9916 VFW and WVANG Military Funeral Honors, Camp Dawson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Walter's memory to St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, P.O. Box 4204, Star City, WV 26504 To aid their outreach programs.
