The following is copied from Craun Family research done by Eva M. (Shafley) Craun, Concord, Michigan, early 1957: Abigail Benscoter (in Dutch, Angsnetje Van Benschoten) in 1781 married Johannes Craun at V.B. record says in "Delaware Valley." She was the daughter of James Benscoter and Elizabeth (Kermer, sometimes sp. Carmer. She was born circa 1761 at New Jersey (1880 census record of son) and died it is thought by the Ohio families that Abigail died in Franklin County, Ohio and was buried at the little country lot with Johannes (later than 1820 when named in will). James Benscoter is the American form of the Dutch Jacobus Van Benschoten. His line in America, from Bunschoten, Holland's found recorded 1671 at Kingston, N.Y. 1st Theunis Eliasen; 2nd Gerrit b. 1682, Kingston, N.Y.; 3rd Anthony b. 1709, Kingston; 4th Jacobus b. 1737, Minising? Valley--later called James Benscoter, traditionally an innkeeper in New Jersey. About 1780 he went to Wyoming Valley, Pa. Was settled permanently in Union Twp., Luzerne Co., Pa. by 1792. James died probably at Abigails in Ohio--later than 1820 (named in Johanne's will).
