The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Buck, daughter of the late William Augusta Haddock, Sr. and Sina Smith Haddock, was a native of Clay Root and lived in the Garnerville community for most of her adult life. She attended Chicod High School and during her early life was engaged in farming with her husband, Joseph Wesley Buck. Mrs. Buck also worked at Hamilton Beach Mfg. Company in Washington, NC followed by a lengthy career with Burroughs-Wellcome Pharmaceuticals in Greenville, NC, retiring as a Quality Assurance Supervisor in 1994.
Mrs. Buck was a longtime member of Timothy Christian Church in Gardnerville where she was involved in many ministries, including Church Choir, Vacation Bible School, Church Officer, Sunday School teacher and led numerous fund raising events. She had a passion for singing. At an early age, she and her brother, W. A., would sing country melodies and gospel songs at a local radio station on Saturdays. She was among the first state certified female firefighters when the Gardnerville VFD added 18 women firefighters in 1974.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many people.
In addition to her parents Mrs. Buck was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Joseph Wesley Buck. She was also preceded in death by her brothers James, George, Elmer, Odell, Ottis, Burnice, W. A., Jr. and Clyde along with sisters Naomi Haddock, Ruth Hudson and Pauline Smith.
She is survived by sons, Coy A. Buck and wife, Brooks, of Winterville and Craig S. Buck and wife, Laura, of Gardnerville; grandchildren, Candace Stambolitis and husband, Dino, of Charlotte,Hunter Buck and wife, Kaelyn, of Huntersville, Wes Buck of Smithfield, Cameron Buck of Greenville, and Kyle Adams of Greenville; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Peggy Taylor of Grimesland; sister-in-law, Frances Jordan of West Jefferson; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Spring Arbor Assisted Living of Greenville and AseraCare Hospice of Greenville for all of their compassionate care.
