Merton D. Baird, 65, of Shippensburg, Franklin County, PA died Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at home.

Born Sept. 9, 1940, in Allen County, IN, he was the son of Bethel Brooke Baird, Shippensburg, and the late Merton Nelson Baird.

He was a retired professor of chemistry at Shippensburg University, where he worked for 37 years from 1968 until 2005.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN in 1962 and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1969.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Shirley B. Gorden Baird; a son, Alan M. Baird; a daughter, Katherine E. (Mrs. Eric G.) FitzPatrick; a sister, Lois E.(Mrs. Jon) Bordner; a granddaughter, Julia E. FitzPatrick; and three nieces, Kimberly E. Bordner, Jamie A. Bordner and Lesley P. Bordner.

Private memorial services will be conducted in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, 112 W. King St., Shippensburg. The Rev. Thomas Jeffries will officiate.

His ashes will be buried will be in Bunnell Cemetery, Clinton County, IN, USA.
