A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Roberta “Bert” Hernandez Roy will be held at 11 am on Monday, June 17, 2019, at Holy Family Catholic Church at Monet Ferry with Rev. Kenneth Obiekwe serving as celebrant. Burial will follow at Rachal Cemetery in the Marco Community. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 9 pm on Sunday, June 16, 2019, at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel.

Bert, 96 years of age and a resident of Marco, passed away Friday, June 14, 2019, in Natchitoches. She was born on November 15, 1922, to Joseph Rachal, Sr. and Rosa Brossette Rachal in Marco, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Andrew Hernandez; a second husband, Fred Roy; her siblings, Daisey Williams, Mattie Roberts, Odelia McWright, Joseph Rachal, Jr. Edward Rachal, Mary Catherine Schimming, and an infant sister, Ethel Rachal.

Bert was devoted to her Catholic faith, and was a life long member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She was a member of the Altar Society. She was a deeply spiritual and selfless woman who loved her family dearly and was always there to help anyone in need. She enjoyed cooking and often helped to support the church by making her special meat pies, hot tamales and gumbo. Her passions also included listening to music, gardening and enjoying the beauty of nature, but above of all spending time with her family.

In her early years, she worked as a psychiatric aide at Pineville State Hospital. After retirement, she volunteered at the VA Hospital in Pineville and at the Natchitoches Parish Hospital as a Pink Lady.

She is survived by her children, Louis Hernandez, and wife Mary, Garlin Hernandez and wife Angela, Rosemary Danzy and husband Russ, Stanley Hernandez, Stacey Denise Shockey and husband Bill, and Dennis Hernandez and wife Susan; a sister, Bernadine Trumps; grandchildren, Lynn Creech and late husband, John, Michelle Johnson and husband Donnie, Kurt Danzy and wife Susan, Brett Danzy and wife Patience, Drew Danzy and wife Mallory, Danny Danzy, and wife JoAnna, Flint Nelson and wife Tara, Brandon Hernandez, and wife Brandy, Kassi Delapasse and husband Adrien, Cory Hernandez and fiancé Wendy Colbe, Jimmy Morin, Shaune Morin Beard and husband Ricky, Sonya Hernandez, Derrick Hernandez and wife Kim, and Devin Hernandez and wife Lindsay. She was blessed with 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers include, Kurt Danzy, Brett Danzy, Drew Danzy, Danny Danzy, Jimmy Morin, Brandon Hernandez, Matt Patterson and Zachary Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sonny Williams, George Rachal, Sean Rachal, Russ Danzy and Bill Shockey.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Kathleen Kautz and the staff at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center ICU, especially Anna, LaKendria, and Alisha for the care and compassion shown during such a difficult time.
