Carolyn Blattel-Britton, a long time Zearing resident, passed away June 10, 2019 at Zearing Healthcare Center.

Carolyn Marie Blattel was born March 30, 1955, the second child of Carl J and Mary C (Perry) Blattel in Zearing. She graduated from Nesco High School in 1973. On September 11, 1979, she gave birth to a son, John. Carolyn was united in marriage to Benjamin Britton of Marion, Iowa on May 7, 1988. Ben adopted John and then on February 21, 1989 she gave birth to another son, Carl. Carolyn and Ben moved to their longtime residence at 508 North St in Zearing in 1992 where they operated an art studio out of their home.

Carolyn was a renowned artist in central Iowa doing fine art for nearly 40 years. Some well-known reproductions of her work include “This is Iowa”, “Iowa State Fair”, “Iowa’s Capitol” and Father Gander Nursery Rhymes book for which she did the illustrations. She also did many commissions for RAGBRAI in the late 80’s and early 90’s then again recently from 2013-2018.

In addition to her artwork, Carolyn enjoyed tending to her flower garden across the street which she helped create along with her husband.

Carolyn is survived by her husband Ben; sons John of Marshalltown and Carl of Zearing and a sister Marianne (Mark) of Madrid.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
