Phyllis Murphy, 85 Fort Morgan woman served 25 years with bank Phyllis Murphy

Phyllis Murphy, 85, of Fort Morgan, died Friday, July 7, 2006, in Greeley of pancreatic cancer. She was born February 22, 1921, in Hopkins, Missouri, to Harry Cowen and Gladys (Churchill) Cowen. She graduated from Sheridan High School, Sheridan, Missouri, in 1939 and moved to Colorado in August 1939.

She married the late Eldean "Pat" Murphy on December 26, 1941, in Sidney, Nebraska. Mr. Murphy died in 2005. They lived in the state of Washington during World War II, where Mr. Murphy served part of his four years in the U.S. Air Force.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister Coryl Wolverton and one brother Harry J. Cowen of Rapid City. She is survived by her brother Russell Cowen of Bedford, Iowa, her uncle Troy Cowen of Fort Morgan and several cousins.

Phyllis retired as Assistant Cashier from Farmers State Bank of Fort Morgan on December 26, 1971, after 25 years of service with the bank in various departments. She and Pat were longtime members of Fort Morgan square dance clubs and enjoyed traveling to square dances throughout Northern Colorado. They both enjoyed their families and particularly enjoyed the cousins' reunions held yearly in Fort Morgan.

She is survived by her nieces, Sallie Johnson, Wanda Clutch, Patricia Moreland and several other nieces and nephews. All of them loved her dearly for her quiet and efficient manner and her warm affection for all of them.

Memorial services will be Saturday, July 15, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at the Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary in Fort Morgan. Services will conclude at the mortuary. Inturnment will be at a later date in the Hoyt Cemetery, Hoyt, Colorado.
