Major League Baseball Manager. Born Frank Joseph Lucchesi, he attended Galileo High School in California, before experiencing a thirteen year career at the Minor League level. He joined the Philadelphia Phillies' organization and managed several of their Minor League affiliates, prior to reaching the Major League level when he succeeded George Myatt as manager in 1970. He remained at this capacity for parts of three seasons (1970 to 1972) and served as a coach with the Texas Rangers under Billy Martin. He succeeded Martin as manager of the Rangers (1975 to 1977) during the 1975 season. During his tenure as manager of the Texas Rangers, Lucchesi will be remembered for an altercation with player Lenny Randle which resulted in Randle punching Lucchesi in the mouth. Randle was upset about decreased playing time. He would be traded to the Mets, fined and suspended by the league and sued by Lucchesi. He returned to the Rangers as a coach under Pat Corrales (1979 to 1980). Lucchesi, who had been working for the Chicago Cubs replaced Gene Michael as manager who was fired late in the 1987 season. He compiled a 316 win, 399 loss career MLB managerial record.
