Carl W. Abell Jr., 67, of Elbridge, NY, died Thursday, June 14, 2007, at his home, following an extended battle with cancer. Carl fought late-stage cancer for 2-1/2 years, with the excellent care and support given to him by his family, friends and Hematology/Oncology Associates of Central New York and Hospice. Carl was born May 14, 1940, in Syracuse to the late Carl W. Sr. and Frances Louise Considine Abell. He lived in the town of Elbridge for the last 42 years. Carl served in the U.S. Air Force and was a former village of Jordan trustee. In the early '60s, he owned and operated Carl's Barbershop on Syracuse's south side. He also worked at Allied Chemical until its closing, and he retired from the New York State DOT, Bridge Repair, Camillus Residency, in 2002. He was predeceased by his brother, John, and his wife, Sandra, in 2004 and 2005; his brother, Joseph, in 2004; and his sister, Marie Karschner, in 2006. Carl is survived by his beloved wife, the former Margie J. Wheeler; his three daughters, Christine (Jim) Hotchkiss and Joyce Howell (Joe Spado), all of Baldwinsville, and Maureen Abell of Syracuse; his two sons, Timothy (Tammy Grabbatin) of Savannah and Patrick of Auburn. Carl is also survived by three sisters, Joyce Wuerpel of Maine, Frances Austin of Florida and Shirley (Frank) Kot of Memphis, NY; four grandchildren, Annika Howell, Kenneth Hotchkiss and Tristan and Alexander Abell; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Carl will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, in Elbridge Community Church, followed by interment in Kingdom Road Cemetery. Friends are invited to call on the family from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at White Chapel Funeral Home, 2719 Erie Drive, Weedsport. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
