PERU -- John E. Murphy, 80, husband of Beverly A. Packard Patterson Murphy, entered into rest on Monday July 5, 2004 at his home with his loving wife and family and good friends at his side. He was born in Rumford on February 18, 1924, son of Frank L. Murphy and Mary "Minnie" Donahue of Mexico. John received his education in the schools of Mexico. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater of Operations as a heavy equipment operator. He was employed at the Oxford - Ethyl Corp. and Boise Cascade Corp. He served over 43 years until he was injured in 1985, later taking his retirement from Boise Cascade in 1989. He was a long time member of the American Legion in Rumford Post #24 and the V.F.W. Post 5986 of Canton. John and his wife enjoyed building and landscaping their home along with his stepson. He enjoyed his vacations on the Cape at the cottage of his favorite brother and sister in law, Barb and Norm, boating, fishing and visiting points of interest at the Cape. He enjoyed cookouts at camp and at his home, playing cribbage, cards and going to beano with good friends and family. He made many cribbage boards and gave them to family and friends. He took pleasure caring for his home and loved his little pets, kitties Chrissy and Bridget and his little cock-a-poo, Skipper. He survived by his loving wife, Beverly Ann of Peru; a daughter, Valerie Scott and her husband, William of New Mexico; two sons, Scott Murphy and his wife, Cindy of Dixfield, and Kevin of Mexico; his step son, Michael Patterson, whom he loved as his very own, and companion, Laurel of MA; his sister, Inaze Stinchfield of Canton; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, many dear nieces and nephews and good friends. He was predeceased by his parents; seven brothers; and four sisters. John was the youngest child of 13 children.
