Joel Dennis Warnick passed away May 24, 2019 in Clearfield, Utah due to complications after a stroke. This beloved family patriarch is survived by his devoted wife Suzanne (Sue) Stromness; his daughters Michelle (Mike) Thompson, Brenda (Tom) Raccuia, Janet (Adam) Lambert, and DeeAnn (Paul) Servey; 16 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; his siblings D. Guy Warnick and Marjean Remy; and his mother-in-law and his wife’s siblings, and many nieces and nephews. He was lovingly welcomed to the other side of the veil by his parents; his older brothers Ralph Howard, Darrell Marvin, and Jesse LaMar; his sister Daphne Rae Branch; his father-in-law Richard (Dick) Stromness; and great-granddaughter Mirabel Jones.

Joel was born on Christmas Day 1938 to Jesse Ralph Warnick and Lelen Ether Ault in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the sixth of seven children and spent most of his boyhood in Pocatello, Idaho, before returning to the Salt Lake valley to complete high school. Joel faithfully served a mission in the Southern States and returned to Utah where he met the love of his life, Sue. Joel married his eternal sweetheart November 20, 1963 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Joel was a hard worker who learned many skills and was often engaged in using those skills in the service of others. He quickly became an expert at whatever field he focused on and was able to do anything from electronics engineering work to driving a bus. Joel was a witty and social soul who made many friends and brought a smile to everyone he met. He used his genuine kindness and compassion to connect with others and brighten their day whenever he could.

Joel was a lover of music and instilled that love into his children and grandchildren. He supported his family in activities and performances, and always could be counted on to cheer louder than anyone else so you knew he was watching. Joel read many books and enjoyed computer games (especially Skyrim and Fallout 4). He loved to have fun and was young at heart and could always be counted on to listen to a joke, whether it made sense or not. Joel was happy to help his grandkids scare Sue and would gamely participate in whatever imaginative schemes they proposed. He was also personally responsible for sharing his love of serving and eating ice cream with his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and visitors; it was one of the ways Joel shared his passion and zest for life!

Joel was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was honored to serve in many capacities in every place he lived, whether it was in Sugarhouse, Utah; Mesa, Arizona; Idaho Falls, Idaho; Okinawa, Japan; Bountiful or Farmington, Utah. He loved every calling from Nursery Leader to being in the Branch Presidency and always honored his priesthood responsibilities as both a Seventy and a High Priest in the Melchizedek Priesthood. He loved fulfilling a Service Mission at the Global Service Center with his wife. Throughout his life he was able to be an anchor of faith for friends and family alike during times of trial and hardships. Joel was well known for his world-class bear hugs and his dry, witty humor that could always lighten the mood. Joel was and always will be the kind of man others look up to, adore, and honor. Until we meet again, we love you!
